 Wenatchee Driving School Testing Policies

Please read prior to booking an appointment.

Payment is due when making an appointment. appointment is not booked unless a payment is made.

                                                      The DOL Knowledge Exam is $35.00                           The DOL Skills Exam is $50.00.                                            

• *These fees are separate from the fee charged for your Traffic Safety Education Course and Department of Licensing’s application and licensing fees*

• To be eligible for the Knowledge Exam, applicants must be at least 15 1/2 years old or be 15 years old and have successfully completed a TSE course. 

• To be eligible for the Skills Exam, applicants must:

• Have a passing Knowledge Exam score

• -Have a valid WA instruction permit, a valid foreign driver license, or temporary authorization to drive  

• -Have successfully completed an approved TSE course, if required
• You must pass a state knowledge test BEFORE taking the drive test. If there are time slots to do both in the same day, you may take both on the same day.

• We reserve the right to refuse services to anyone.

• Refunds- No refunds. When booking an appointment, a payment will be required to hold a spot. If you need to reschedule, please reach out via email (wendrivingschool@gmail.com) 24 hours before the date and time of your test. Not showing up will not receive a refund or be able to reschedule. Please book another appointment. Rescheduling- applicants will be moved to the nearest available appointment.

• The knowledge exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions about traffic safety laws. Applicants need 80% to pass the exam- 32 out of 40 questions correct.

• The skills exam tests the applicants’ ability to drive legally & safely. Applicants must pass the skills exam score of at least 80%.

• Study the Washington Driver Guide, take written practice tests, watch videos, and above all, practice, practice, practice.

• Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure everything is in order. At the time of the test, provide proof of identification such as a photo permit, out of state license, or school ASB card.

• Applicants wishing to use their own vehicle for their skills exam are required to provide proof of insurance and current registration (current tabs), at the time of the appointment. Your vehicle must comply with all legal requirements to be operated on public streets. This includes, but is not limited to; windshield, seat belts, wipers, defroster, tires, mirrors, all brake and reverse lights, turn signals, license plate (must be valid and attached to both front and back of vehicle), functional parking brake and be legally licensed/tabs current.

• Staff cannot verify proof of insurance by phone. E-mailing insurance verification to our office may take 5-10 minutes. If it is not here by the beginning of the test it may result in rescheduling your appointment.

• Rental vehicles may only be used by licensed drivers.

• Only you, an examiner, a service animal, and a state approved interpreter for the deaf or hard of hearing are allowed in the vehicle during the test. Sometimes a supervisor or one of our staff-in-training may ride along as an observer. If you have an objection, please tell us at the start of the test.

• You will need to demonstrate correct arm signals prior to beginning the skills test.

• Pursuant to RCW 46.20.720 a driver convicted of an alcohol offense may be required to have an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) to drive. The applicant must take the skills exam in their vehicle using the IID.

• Most school vehicles are equipped with cameras and may record all tests. The videos are for safety and training purposes only and are not available for customer review. Images will not be used for any type of public use.

• Your examination results will be recorded in the DOL database within 24 hours. To obtain your license, you’ll need to visit the DOL office. Passing both the knowledge and driving tests does not automatically mean you’ll receive a driver’s license. The Department of Licensing will assess whether all licensing criteria have been fulfilled. If you are under 18 years old, you must be at least 16 years of age, have completed a traffic safety education course, held your permit for a minimum of 6 months, and accrued 50 hours of driving experience, including at least 10 hours of night driving, to be eligible for your driver’s license.

• Instances of bribery will be reported to the Department of Licensing.

• If you have a mental or physical condition that could affect your driving ability, or if you have been instructed by the DOL to undergo an examination, you must complete the test at a DOL office. Failure to disclose this information before testing will invalidate your test results for obtaining a license at the DOL, and we will be unable to refund the test fee.

• The Department of Licensing reserves the right to conduct random re-examinations; applicants refusing to take a re-examination may have their license revoked.

*By signing the testing document right before the start of your test, you acknowledge that I have been notified of “school” policies and procedures regarding testing.
